Preceding the discovery of the 501 Zn-Cu occurrence on the Metalex joint venture, geologically favorable ground around 501 was acquired by Golden Valley Mines. Following the discovery, White Pine Resources along with Noront Resources formed a 3-way joint venture with Golden Valley Mines on this important land holding. Both White Pine and Noront have the option to earn 35% each of the claim group. An airborne VTEM survey was conducted over the ground in the fall of 2008 which outlined several high priority drill targets with geophysical signatures similar or better than the 501 discovery. Drilling in the spring of 2009 on 6 high-priority airborne anomalies produced significant to anomalous Zn-Cu-Ag values in 4 of the 6 anomalies.
Following the positive results from multiple anomalies, White Pine Resources commissioned a Geotech ZTEM airborne survey in August of 2009 which penetrates up to 1.5 km below surface. The ZTEM survey was utilized to prioritize the exploration success from the initial drilling program. The survey has identified low resistivity anomalies directly over the zone that suggests that it could continue potentially to greater depth at the G1 and G3 anomalies. These anomalies will be the target of additional drilling during the winter of 2010.These anomalies were the target of drilling during the winter of 2010, with the following results:
Drill hole G1-10-06, drilled to intersect the massive sulphide horizon at a vertical depth of 450m, again intersected massive sulphides from 498.85-506.45m downhole which assayed 1.68 %Zn, 0.35%Cu and 0.18%Pb over 7.60m. Included in this interval from 498.85-503.0m downhole was 2.84%Zn, 0.46%Cu and 0.28%Pb over 4.15m.
Drill hole G3-09-03 drilled to intersect the massive sulphide horizon at a vertical depth of 550m, again intersected massive sulphides from 596.12-596.28m which assayed 3.75%Zn, 0.025%Cu and 0.25%Pb over 0.16m.
Exploration plans for 2011 are currently under review.
